milliK

A precision thermometer against a manufacturing budget that would not stretch. The interesting constraint was cost.

Most of our instrument projects were constrained by physics. This one was constrained by money, which is a different sort of problem and in some ways a harder one.

The milliK had to perform and carry a full set of features, at a manufacturing cost that ruled out the machined metalwork and the construction we had used on the microK. So the case is moulded plastic, and a good deal of what is inside it is injection moulded.

None of that was a compromise on the measurement. The approach we took was to spend the budget where it showed in the numbers and to be inventive everywhere else.

Metrosol carried out the research, design and development of the milliK, working with Isotech from the initial stages. Isotech brings the instrument to market, supplying, calibrating and supporting it worldwide.
